The "Quick Return Timeout" option adds a convenience factor to the GateKeeper with PIN unlock method. By setting a short window of time for the Quick Return Timeout, you set the computer such that if the SAME user returns to the SAME computer within this specified time period, they won't have to retype in their PIN again to unlock that computer.
An example of a situation where Quick Return Timeout is useful is when a user takes a short break from their computer. Let's say that the Quick Return Timeout is set to 5 minutes, then if the user gets up and walks away from the computer to get a cup of coffee and returns within 5 minutes, they will be automatically logged back in to the computer and not have to type in their PIN.
Quick Return Timeout allows for a good combination of security and convenience using the GateKeeper for authentication.
This method is only available on the enterprise version of the software and can be set from the GateKeeper Hub admin console.
How to set Quick Return Timeout from the Hub admin console
Admins can let users that login using 2FA (token and PIN) to log back into their computers automatically (without retyping their PIN) if that same user returns to the same computer before a preset amount of time decided by the admins.
1. Login to your GateKeeper Hub admin console.
2. Click Group Settings.
3. Find the Group the computer and user are in and click Manage Settings next to it.
4. Click UNLOCK SETTINGS.
5. Next to Quick Return Timeout, select Set on Hub and then select a length of time. If you wish to let the users choose the length of time, select Set on Client computer.
Done! Now users in that Group will be able to login using strong 2FA, then if they return to their same computer within the preset amount of time, they will be automatically logged back in without retyping their PIN.
