Can we use the fingerprint reader built into our laptop to login with GateKeeper?

GateKeeper currently only supports certain HID models of fingerprint readers. This may change down the road as we seek to support other authentication methods.

GateKeeper-Supported Fingerprint Reader Models:

• HID DigitalPersona 4500 Fingerprint Reader

• HID DigitalPersona 5300 Fingerprint Reader

• HID EikonTouch 510 Fingerprint Reader

• HID EikonTouch 710 Fingerprint Reader

The 710 and 5300 fingerprint readers meets FIPS standards and is recommended for organizations within regulated markets. The 4500 and 510 do readers not meet FIPS standards.

The EikonTouch 710 fingerprint reader is the established biometric standard for DEA compliant EPCS and supports HIPAA assurance within your workflows. Fully compatible/interoperable with all MFA/SSO and EHR applications.

The 4500 and 5300 are optical fingerprint readers and the 510 and 710 are capacitive fingerprint readers. 

GateKeeper Proximity offers three types of authenticators for logging in to computers: 1) wireless Bluetooth tokens (either a GateKeeper token or your Android phone), 2) OTP, and 3) biometric fingerprint.

To use fingerprints to log in to your computers and access passwords, please follow the directions below.

1) Login to your GateKeeper Hub.

2) Click on Group Settings on the left side.

 

3) Click Global Settings.

4) Select Fingerprint checkbox under Authenticators.

*Note: The IT admin must choose between using fingerprints or Bluetooth tokens before deployment. When using fingerprint to authenticate, the auto-lock mechanism will not work. The Auto-lock option requires the use of a Bluetooth token to operate.
