GateKeeper does not support FIDO U2F at this time. Wireless implementations of FIDO U2F are limited. Only certain browsers offer Bluetooth Low Energy support, and that too is using only specific Bluetooth communication protocols.
Furthermore, wireless FIDO U2F is not suitable for computer logins in an enterprise setting where multiple users use a single computer, or more importantly, when a person can use multiple computers throughout the day. One of the requirements of Bluetooth implementations of FIDO U2F is that the Bluetooth devices be paired with each other. It is impractical and unmanageable if GateKeeper users have to pair their tokens to each computer they use in the organization.
GateKeeper allows for admins to utilize AD in their authentication with GateKeeper without having to pair tokens with any computers, making deployment and management significantly easier.
GateKeeper uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tokens to provide proximity based 2-FA for computer logins. It has a built-in password manager that allows users to manage their web credentials, and provides access to those web credentials only after successful authentication on their computer logins. While this implementation is different from FIDO U2F which authenticates the user directly on supported websites using their token, the proximity authentication of GateKeeper prevents any unauthorized use of web credentials stored on the GateKeeper server. This makes it impossible for one user to get access to another's web credentials since they are keyed specifically to a user's token.
For any additional questions or concerns regarding locking, logging off, proximity settings, credential management, or compliance, please contact GateKeeper Enterprise support using the Support Ticket form on https://gkaccess.com/support/ or email support@gkaccess.com. Lock or log off automatically when you're away from your computer.
