Physical Authenticator explained.
A physical authenticator is a device used for strong authentication into a system. The physical authenticator is "something you have", in terms of authentication factors. Physical authenticators are generally used in secure environments. Admins utilize physical authenticators as either primary login methods for users or as secondary authentication factors (alongside passwords , biometrics, presence, or another factor).
A physical authenticator is a small electronic key fob that allows for passwordless login into a system. The physical authenticator communicates wireless signals that is received by a sensor to allow predetermined authentication commands (lock and unlock) to occur based on presence + potentially other factors. In the case of computers, websites, and software, physical authenticator, such as GateKeeper, allow for a passwordless authentication mechanism - saving the user much time and hassle.
Key features of the GateKeeper® physical authenticator include
- Continuous authentication through a secure physical authenticator.
- Automatic web OTP for faster 2FA access.
- Hands-free login and logout for users instead of manually typing passwords and locking computers.
- Automatic Bluetooth LE-based physical authenticator to access your computer and passwords.
- Auto-lock computers when the user walks away for enhanced security.
- Unlock computers automatically or with faster 2FA/MFA through use of a PIN and the proximity of the GateKeeper authenticator.
GateKeeper Proximity is a physical authenticator for computers, website, and software passwords. The hard token authenticates users and logs them on instantly based on the proximity of the GateKeeper authenticator to the workstation (PC/Mac). When the user and token move out of range, GateKeeper automatically locks the computer, thereby preventing unauthorized access and potential internal data breaches.
GateKeeper for enterprise also includes additional features including authorization control for all computers on the network through a central management server, as well as comprehensive auditing for compliance requirements.
