The longer the password and more complex, the better. Computers can brute-force passwords at a very high rate and the only way to combat this is to outlast even computers. Make passwords long and difficult guess.
Recommended:
- 1. Recommend using 16+ characters in your password (preferably longer).
- 2. Using passphrases makes it easier to remember.
- 3. Include numbers, symbols, spaces, upper- and lower-case letters to enhance complexity.
- 4. Use a password manager to eliminate memorization and typing of the long and complex password (but keep security).
- 5. Use 2FA whenever possible.
NOT Recommended:
- don't use easily guessed passwords.
- don't use common or simple passwords.
- do not use old passwords, username, network name, first name, last name, date of birth, social security number, or any confidential details.
- do not share your password with ANYONE (no one should ask you what your password is).
- do not REUSE this password anywhere else, ever again.
- don't write the password down somewhere, like on a Post-it note or piece of paper.
- never let your web browser save your usernames and passwords (saved in plain text).
