How to install the GateKeeper Client desktop application.

Before beginning the GateKeeper Client Enterprise installation, please ensure you've deployed the GateKeeper Hub (on-premise or cloud). You CAN NOT install the client software without the GateKeeper Hub setup, first. There are three methods for installing the GateKeeper Client desktop application on computers:

Method 1: Direct Install - Setup the Client app through the installer's UI.

Method 2: Silent Install - The fastest option for deploying the Client app on a single PC through the command line.

Method 3: Windows Group Policy (GPO) - Ideal for deploying to multiple computers at once.

This software is available for Windows (7, 8.1, and 10) and macOS (10.13 and 10.14).

METHOD 1: DIRECT INSTALL

1. Download the appropriate version of the GateKeeper application

For GateKeeper personal users (Individual Users): 

Download the GateKeeper Retail application from https://gkaccess.com/downloads

For GateKeeper Enterprise users (Subscription-based):

Download the GateKeeper Client application; please follow the steps below:

  • Sign in to your GateKeeper Hub instance.

  • Click the Downloads tab.

  • Click the Download button to download the GateKeeper Client app for your OS.

 

2. Installing the GateKeeper Application

  • Double-click the downloaded file and click Next to continue.

 

  • Accept the terms and conditions and click Next to continue.

 

  • Select the location where you’d like to install the application and click Next to continue.                                                 

 

  • [On-Premise GateKeeper Hub URL]: Fill in the IP address of the computer where the GateKeeper Hub is installed and the port number. The port number, by default, is set to 3015.
  • [Cloud GateKeeper Hub URL]: Fill in the URL for the GateKeeper Hub website (format [company].gatekeeperhub.com), and the port number by default is set to 443.
  • [GateKeeper API Key]: Is used to automatically sync and approve computers requesting permission to communicate with the GateKeeper Hub. How to find the API Key.
  • Click Validate, then Next.

  • Click Next.

This feature allows your PIN to authenticate on Windows security dialogs and pass in your stored credentials into applications like remote desktops. Using GateKeeper to access a remote session.

  • Click Next. 

The GateKeeper Chrome extension is a web password manager that installs along with the GateKeeper application and provides users secure access to their web login credentials.

  • Click Next. 

This feature allows GateKeeper to manage this computer from the server for remote translation of applications, and other tasks. Remote Management in GateKeeper Explained.

  • Click Next. 

To ensure the most optimal automated proximity authentication experience, it is highly recommended that GateKeeper USB sensors (receivers) be used instead of a PC's internal Bluetooth. Please use the following links to learn more. By default, the box is checked, "Use all the available Bluetooth devices."

  • Click Next.

GateKeeper Fingerprint provides users a hassle-free biometric login experience by eliminating the need to type or remember passwords, without compromising convenience and productivity. Please click here to see compatible readers. The default setting is No, Do not install fingerprint reader drivers.

 

  • Click Install to begin installing the application.

  • Click Install to begin installing the application.

 

  • Click Yes to allow the program to make changes to your computer.

 

  • Wait until the installation finishes. Then click Finish.

 

  • Launch the GateKeeper application from the Start Menu or by clicking the GateKeeper icon in the taskbar.

METHOD 2: SILENT INSTALL

Create a Batch (.bat) file with the following command and run it as an Administrator Command Prompt. Important: Make sure to put in the correct SharedDrive path to the .msi file and the ServerIP of the GateKeeper Hub Server.

msiexec /i \\SharedDrive\GateKeeper-Client-Win.msi /qn /l*v c:\gklog.log <ADDITIONAL-ARGUMENTS>
List of ADDITIONAL-ARGUMENTS:
 
1. SERVER_ADDR=<URL:PORT> (Default: https://localhost:3015) 
Address of the GateKeeper Hub server application.  Make sure to use your server address along with the port number. For GateKeeper Cloud Hub customers, the URL will be your GateKeeper Cloud Hub address, and the port number will be 443. E.g., https://mycompany.gatekeeperhub.com:443
 
2. API_KEY="asfasdgfsfdasfksafdlaksflasdfas"
The API key is used to sync the client app with the Cloud GateKeeper Hub automatically. If the API key is not provided, a Hub admin must sync the client app manually. How to find my Hub API key.
 
3. ENABLE_CREDUI=True or False (Default: True)
Enable the GateKeeper PIN authentication on Windows Security dialogs.
 
4. ENABLE_WMI=True or False (Default: True)
Enable the GateKeeper client to read computer properties like CPU usage, processes, installed applications, etc., and allow the Hub to show them. You will need the ULTIMATE version of the Hub license to use this feature.
 
5. ENABLE_WINBLE=True or False (Default: True)
Use internal or non-GateKeeper Bluetooth sensors on Windows 10 computers.
 
6. FINGERPRINT=Yes or No (Default: No)
Install fingerprint drivers for the supported fingerprint readers.
 
7. UPLOAD_STATS=True or False (Default: True)
Upload anonymous statistics like the number of lock and unlock events to our server.
 
8. ENABLE_EXTENSION=True or False (Default: True)
Enable the Chrome and Edge GateKeeper Password Vault browser extension
 
Example command line script:

msiexec /i GateKeeper-Client-Win.msi /qn SERVER_ADDR=https://mycompany.gatekeeperhub.com:443 API_KEY="asfasdgfsfdasfksafdlaksflasdfas" UPLOAD_STATS=False

 

METHOD 3: WINDOWS GROUP POLICY (GPO)

GPO Method 1) Startup Script Method

1. Create a GPO with Policies>Windows Settings>Scripts>Startup with the batch file containing the silent install script

1. Create a GPO with Policies>Software Settings>Applications with the .msi file from the SharedDrive

2. Setup registry policy with Preferences>Windows Settings>Registry

3. Add Registry Key HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\UntetheredLabs\GateKeeper Client\Config

Set key’s "Value name" field as ServerAddress

Set key’s "Value data" field as https://<YourGateKeeperHubServer>:<PortNumber>

For on-premise Hub installations, the server address can be a DNS name or the IP address of the machine  hosting the Hub. Typically, the port number will be 3015.

For cloud Hub installations, the server address will be your GateKeeper Hub website such as companya.gatekeeperhub.com. The port number will be 443.

3. Add Registry Key HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\UntetheredLabs\GateKeeper Client\Config

Set key's Value name as APIKey

Set key's Value data as asfasdgfsfdasfksafdlaksflasdfas (How to find my Hub API key)
