GateKeeper uses the proximity of the token and a user-generated PIN to authenticate and log the user onto a computer. However, the PIN is NOT required when any of the 1-factor authentication options (Automatic Login, Press Enter to Login, or Touch Login) are chosen.
The Force PIN Login Timeout setting can be used to force the user to type in their PIN to unlock the computer at regular intervals even WHILE any of the 1-factor authentication settings are being used. This forces users to re-authenticate at scheduled intervals for security/policy requirements.
This ensures that while the convenience of 1-factor authentication is available to all users, the security of 2-factor authentication by using token proximity and the PIN is also enforced at regular intervals.
When a time is set for the Force PIN Login Timeout, the user will be asked for their PIN to log in to their computer once that time has passed. After that, the 1-factor authentication options will be re-enabled.
Many IT administrators set Forced PIN Login Timeout to 24 hours so that once every day, users are forced to type in their PIN to log in to the computer.
Force PIN Login Timeout can only be applied if any of the 1-factor authentication options are chosen as the Unlock Method.
The Force PIN Login Timeout option is only available on the enterprise version of the application and can be set from the GateKeeper Hub server application.
1. Open your GateKeeper Client application on your PC by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard and start typing "GateKeeper".
2. Click Settings in the lower left.
3. Under Unlock Settings, go to Force PIN Login Timeout, and select your preferred length of time.
