Monitor GateKeeper User profiles to automatically close or start applications upon login
GateKeeper Monitor is an add-on software tool that works alongside the GateKeeper Client agent application to monitor the active user in a Windows session and take certain predefined actions based on the computer and user activity.
The primary purpose of GateKeeper Monitor is to identify if a new user has signed into a shared workstation under the same Windows account as the previous user and close all predefined applications and web browsers immediately so that the new user does not get access to the previous user's work.
Additionally, the GateKeeper Monitor tool automatically launches new browser windows and/or desktop applications for the new user to access immediately upon unlocking the computer. Download file: GateKeeper Monitoring Service MSI file.
Use cases:
If a GateKeeper-enabled computer is set up in Kiosk mode, multiple GateKeeper users log on to the same Windows account (a shared login) using their own GateKeeper tokens. This is a common scenario in healthcare, manufacturing, and other industries where multiple people have to access information on the same computer under a common Windows account. However, GateKeeper identifies unique users that log in, even with the shared account.
Case 1: Users A and B alternately use a Kiosk Mode computer with their GateKeeper tokens.
- User A unlocks the Kiosk computer and opens a website for work.
- The user logs into the website and does their work.
- User A then walks away from the shared workstation, which is automatically locked by GateKeeper.
- User B then unlocks the same computer using their own token.
- Since the computer is in Kiosk mode, User B has access to the website that User A opened and had logged in.
- With the GateKeeper Monitor tool installed and set up to monitor the web browser, the add-on detects that User B is different from User A, and thus automatically closes the browser and clears all cookies to make sure that User A's data is completely cleared.
- Additionally, GateKeeper Monitor will automatically launch a new browser window with the pre-defined website so that User B can sign in.
Case 2: User A is accessing a Kiosk mode computer multiple times throughout the day
- User A unlocks the Kiosk computer and opens a website to do work.
- The user logs into the website and does their work.
- User A then walks away from the shared workstation, which is automatically locked by GateKeeper.
- After a few minutes, User A comes back to the same computer and unlocks it using their token.
- GateKeeper Monitor will know that the new session still belongs to User A and will keep all the programs and browsers running as before. Therefore, User A can continue to carry on their work without having to sign in to the website again.
