Active Directory Connector for GateKeeper Hub.
The Active Directory Connector software utility is provided for connecting on-premise Active Directory to the cloud version of GateKeeper Hub. The utility allows GateKeeper Hub to sync with the on-premise AD without requiring any ports to be opened in the network firewalls, providing a secure and encrypted communication between the GateKeeper Hub and the domain controller. Benefits of the Active Directory Connector are:
- No need to open any ports in the firewall to connect to Active Directory.
- Secure connection to AD over SSL.
- In case of multiple domain controllers and distributed domains, each one can be connected to using a different AD Connector.
- Saves admins lots of time.
The utility uses the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to communicate with the domain controller. It then communicates data with the GateKeeper Hub cloud instance over an SSL-encrypted channel to ensure encryption in transit.
Setup Process:
-
From the GateKeeper Hub, go into the Administration > AD Connection.
-
Click the button to create a new Active Directory connection and choose the AD Connector option.
-
Fill in the form to name the connection and specify the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) for your on-premise AD. Once the form is submitted, the download of the AD Connector installer will appear, and a Secret that you will need after the AD Connector is installed.
-
Next, install the AD Connector utility on a domain-joined machine that has access to the domain controller and remains on all the time.
-
Once the AD connector application is installed, fill in the form to set up the connector and connect it to your GateKeeper Hub admin console. A service account is recommended for managing credentials using the AD connector with permission to read and write from the Active Directory. We recommend using an account with a strong passphrase that changes rarely.
Using the AD Connector:
Once the AD Connector has been set up completely, you will be able to access your on-premise Active Directory from the GateKeeper Hub. You can pull in users from AD and manage the AD accounts of users registered in GateKeeper Enterprise.
The AD connector will communicate commands from the Hub to your domain controller and retrieve any properties you requested. You can also use the Hub to add new users into your Active Directory, change their AD passwords, unlock their AD accounts, and disable AD accounts.
