Token-based authentication is an authentication mechanism that uses a "token" to grant the user access to a system rather than using a password. With a token-based login solution, the user no longer needs to remember or type a password that may be long, complex, and difficult to remember. Tokens can also act as a two-factor authenticator.

Most tokens for authentication require manual interaction, but the GateKeeper token works on a wireless, automatic basis for faster authentication with less human input required.
