GateKeeper keys do not have a fixed limit on the number of credentials they can support. Unlike traditional hardware devices that store passwords directly on the token, GateKeeper uses a different architecture that allows you to save as many credentials as you need without slowing down performance.
Credentials Are Not Stored on the Token
The Halberd token does not store usernames, passwords, OTP secrets, or other credential data. Instead, the token is used for secure authentication to your GateKeeper Client and GateKeeper Hub. All credential data is encrypted and stored within the GateKeeper software environment, not on the hardware itself.
This design offers several advantages:
No storage limit on the number of credentials
No performance impact as more passwords are added
No data exposure if the token is lost or stolen
Easy credential management, especially in enterprise environments
If a key is lost, simply delete it from the Hub or Client, and all associated access is immediately revoked.
Adding Passwords to GateKeeper
You can save any number of credentials, including:
Website usernames and passwords
OTP (One-Time Password) secrets
Windows local accounts
Mac local accounts
Active Directory or domain accounts
How to Add Credentials:
Connect your GateKeeper token to your computer.
Open the GateKeeper Client application.
Navigate to the Credentials tab.
Add new usernames, passwords, or OTP secrets as needed.
All added credentials will automatically sync securely with the GateKeeper Hub (in managed environments) and will be available on any workstation the user is authorized to log into.
What Happens if a Token Is Lost?
Since no passwords are stored on the token itself, losing a Halberd key does not expose any credentials. As a security precaution:
Remove the token from the user’s profile in the GateKeeper Hub
Issue a new token and pair it with the user’s account
The user's saved credentials remain intact and are instantly accessible once the new key is connected.
Summary
GateKeeper tokens have no limit on the number of passwords they can hold
Credentials are not stored on the physical token, so performance does not degrade
All credential data is securely stored in the GateKeeper Client and Hub
Losing a token does not compromise stored passwords
Adding new credentials is simple and scalable for both individuals and enterprises
GateKeeper provides a highly flexible and secure way to manage unlimited passwords across all your devices.
