No. GateKeeper does not operate in Windows Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking. When a computer is started in Safe Mode, Windows loads only the minimum set of drivers and services required for basic troubleshooting. Because of these restrictions, the GateKeeper Client service, Bluetooth communication components, USB sensor drivers, and the GateKeeper credential provider do not load.
Without these components, GateKeeper cannot detect tokens, manage proximity, or present its login options. This means the workstation will not unlock using proximity, token plus PIN, or any other GateKeeper authentication method. Automatic locking will also not occur while the system is running in Safe Mode.
During Safe Mode, users must log in using their standard Windows username and password. GateKeeper features will remain disabled until the computer is restarted in normal mode. Once Windows loads normally, all GateKeeper background services and drivers restart, and the system returns to full functionality without requiring any configuration changes.
Summary:
GateKeeper is not supported in Windows Safe Mode. Users should rely on their Windows credentials until the computer is restarted in normal mode, at which point GateKeeper will resume normal operation.
