If GateKeeper asks you to “Choose your credential” at the Windows login screen, it means Windows has detected more than one GateKeeper credential available for authentication. This can occur for two common reasons.
Reason 1: Multiple Credentials Saved to Your GateKeeper User Account
Your GateKeeper user profile may contain more than one credential, such as:
A Windows local account
A domain account
Additional usernames or service accounts
Old or duplicate stored credentials
Web or OTP entries if using GateKeeper for password management
If multiple Windows login credentials are associated with your GateKeeper account, they will all appear at the Windows login screen.
Reason 2: Another User's Token Is Nearby AND Their PIN Is the Same as Yours
If another person with a GateKeeper token is close to your workstation and both users share the same PIN, both credentials can appear on the login screen. This occurs because:
GateKeeper detects both tokens within range
Both tokens respond with the same PIN input
Windows presents both matching credentials and asks you to choose one
This can happen in shared work areas, conference rooms, or when multiple users store their tokens near the same workstation.
How to Remove Unwanted Credentials from Your Account
If an extra credential appears and you want to remove it:
1. Open the GateKeeper Client.
2. Click the “Passwords” tab.
3. Scroll to locate the credential you want to remove.
4. Click the delete (trash can) icon to remove it.
I
Removing unused or duplicate credentials will prevent them from appearing during login.
How to Prevent Another User's Account from Appearing
If the additional credential belongs to someone else, you can prevent this by:
1. Ensuring users do not share the same PIN
Each user should have a unique PIN to avoid cross-authentication.
2. Keeping other users’ tokens away from your workstation during login
Tokens sitting too close may respond to the login request if the PIN matches.
3. Switching to authentication methods that require your specific token
Examples include:
Token + PIN
Touch to Login
These methods prevent another user’s token from appearing.
Summary
You may see two GateKeeper accounts on the login screen because:
Your GateKeeper profile has multiple stored credentials, or
Another user’s token is within range and they are using the same PIN.
Removing unused credentials, ensuring unique PINs, and adjusting authentication methods will prevent this issue.
