Auto-Push Authentication from GateKeeper explained.
Automatic push authentication is when a request for push authentication is made automatically to a predetermined device and method. This relies on proper setup of one's push authentication to execute properly, but will reduce manual steps required to login with 2FA. So, instead of typing your password and then selecting a second factor method, the system already knows to automatically send a request to a predetermined location or device, requesting confirmation. This means the users has prechosen their second factor type and location of the push (likely their phone).
Unlike other auto-push authentication methods, GateKeeper Proximity also automates the challenge to the prompt, resulting in a truly automatic second factor authentication. Instead of opening your phone, clicking the app, and then confirming, GateKeeper lets the user type a simple PIN and then the token automatically gets confirmed through proximity, without the user performing any more additional steps - faster login.
Traditional OTP codes that must be typed are prone to mistyping and password fatigue. Users already have to type passwords, forcing them to authenticate by typing additional passcodes increases user login mistakes and can result in a poor tradeoff between convenience and security. Push authentication saves time by not having to type an OTP code. However, auto-push notification saves the maximum amount of time involved in authenticating a 2nd factor.
