What is Automatic 2FA?

Automatic two-factor authentication is an authentication method where the second factor is performed in an automated fashion, rather than manual. Instead of typing your password and then waiting for and typing another OTP, a user could just submit one form of intent, and then the 2FA system performs a predetermined challenge for the 2nd authentication factor, without the user's input. If the automatic challenge is met, the user is instantly logged in - faster than conventional 2FA.

GateKeeper Proximity 2FA uses proximity to perform an automatic second factor authentication to reduce the time needed to login. GateKeeper Proximity 2FA OTP for websites is also automatic push authentication. If your token is present (something you have), the OTP code for each website will automatically auto-fill without the user opening an application or typing anything. 

Unlike other manual 2FA solutions, GateKeeper Proximity is automatic two-factor authentication for secure and faster login to PCs, Macs, websites, and desktop applications. OTP codes that have to be read and typed are prone to mistyping. Texting OTP codes are open to man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks. Most importantly, users are being asked to take up additional time logging in, which is a drain on productivity and causes password stress/fatigue. Typing ever-increasing passwords that change often is a growing strain on employee productivity. A second factor for authentication should not take extra work on the part of the user.
